A Sig-Alert has been issued for the eastbound 101 Freeway at Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas after the driver of a big rig carrying cabbages lost control of his truck and crashed into the center divider, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash, which blocked two eastbound lanes and at first two westbound lanes as well, backed up traffic for several miles on both sides of the freeway, CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo said. The driver of the big rig was injured, but the extent of the injuries was not known.
Sauquillo said the Sig-Alert was issued at 2:45 and was extended indefinitely because of difficulty moving the truck and debris.
The day’s triple=digit temperatures may have been affecting some drivers stuck in the backup. The CHP received a call of at least one person feeling ill, Sauquillo said.?
